2004 season recap

The 2004 Goldey-Beacom Men’s Cross Country Team finished its season with a third place finish at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships at Belmont Plateau. Juniors Matt Lang (Chestertown, MD) and Brad Paski (Wilmington, DE) were among the top 15 finishers, garnering them each a spot on the all-conference team. Paski, who posted five first-place finishes in eight races amongst GBC runners, finished in ninth place with a time of 28:35.42 while Lang, who finished in first place amongst GBC runners twice this season, finished in 10th place with a time of 28:42.06. The duo finished 1-2 in all eight races for the Lightning this season and helped them to a fourth-place finish at the William Patterson Invitational on September 4 and a fifth-place finish at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic. Sophomore Mickey Jones (Newark, DE) finished in third place among GBC runners in six of the eight races he competed in while junior Chip Lewis (Newark, DE) and sophomore Brian Kirk (Wilmington, DE) were also solid contributors throughout the season.

2003 season recap

Just when you thought them men’s cross-country team achieved all it could in 2002, along comes the 2003 squad with more talent, and higher expectations. The Lightning brought home a team trophy in five of the Invitationals it competed in this year.  First in the Wilmington Invitational, second at the Goldey-Beacom Classic and McDaniel Invitational, Third in the Belmont Classic, and it won its second consecutive conference title in the three year history of the team. “I could not be more proud of these guys,” admits coach Parsley, “they all worked so hard this season to defend their conference title.  It was nice to see their hard work pay off.”

Freshman Rob Netta had a standout season this fall.  He placed 1st in five of the team’s nine races and 26th (one place short of an All-Region ranking) at the NCAA East Division II Regional Meet running a 10k in 33:07; he broke the school record in the 8 kilometer, bettering sophomore teammate, Brad Paski’s 2002 mark with a new conference meet record of 26:48; he owns the course record at Carousel Park (27:35); he was named CACC Runner of the Week on five occasions; and he was CACC Runner of the Year. “Netta has accomplished more in his freshman year than most runners achieve in a career,” exclaims Parsley.”  “I am looking forward to an amazing future for Rob and our team.”

Netta was not the only successful runner this year. Eight different runners placed in Invitationals this year. Five of those runners made the All-Conference Team, including Charles Mayaka (Fr.), conference runner- up, Matt Lang (Fr.) in 9th, Captain Brad Paski (So.) in 11th Keith Short (Fr.) in 13th, and Micky Jones (Fr.) in 14th. “We are young,” admits Parsley, “but our future looks bright.” Only time will tell if the Lightning can achieve even more in 2004. With a strong and young veteran group returning season, the Lightning hopes to remain atop the conference, and place top ten in the regional meet next year.

2002 season recap

In 2002 the Goldey Beacom College men’s cross-country captured its first CACC championship and finished 4th in the NAIA Region X meet. In only the second year of the program, the Lightning had five all-conference runners, with its 6th runner placing only one spot out of the medal bracket. Sophomore Paul Tuoni, placed 4th, with freshman Brad Paski a close 5th. Junior Meder Suyundukov, finished 11th just in front of his freshmen teammates, Brandon Miller 12th and Chip Lewis 12th.

The Lightning had other top finishes throughout the 2002 season. In September the Lightning finished second in the Baptist Bible Invitational, and in October the team finished second in a strong field of division II teams at the Belmont Classic. Individually, Paski broke the school record for the 8000 meters with a time of 28:39 at the DeSales Invitational, surpassing the previous record held by senior Ricardo Ardlia of 29:13. “This year well exceeded my expectations, coach Parsley admits.” “I never imagined that this group of freshman would excel so early in their careers. We have a bright future ahead of us.” The 2003 season kicks off at the William Patterson Invitational on September 6th.

2001 season recap

The Goldey-Beacom Lightning jumped right into action in its first season of competition surprising everyone with a 1st place finish over 16 teams at the Arcadia Invitational, The Lightning’s very first meet. The team went on to be crowned champions of the Philadelphia Bible College Invitational, where graduate Ahmad Alkadars (Cairo, Egypt) set a course record of 29:42 minutes. The Lightning finished out the season by taking 3rd place in the CACC Championship meet, falling to strong Felician and Nyack squads. “There is no telling what we are capable of accomplishing next year,” states Coach Parsley. “with a strong recruiting class and the return a good nucleus from this year’s successful squad. Only time will tell how good we can be, but I believe we will contend for a few titles next season."
