WILMINGTON, DE (September 1, 2004) –
Senior Kristin Johnston (Delaware City, DE),
junior Lori Knabb (Paulsboro, NJ) and
freshman Alexis Frederick (Hockessin,
DE) each scored twice as Goldey-Beacom College scored eight times in the
first half and cruised to a 10-0 win over Columbia Union College Wednesday
afternoon at Nancy Churchman Sawin Athletic Field in Wilmington.
Seniors Erin Tully (Hockessin, DE) and Megan O’Donnell (Newark, DE), along
with junior Janine L’Italien (Newark, DE)
and sophomore April Yanacek (Wilmington,
DE), also scored for the Lightning (1-0), who broke the school record for
goals in a game. The previous record of eight was set on October 14, 2002 when
Goldey-Beacom defeated NJIT, 8-0.
Knabb
scored twice in the first 11:39 of the contest to put the Lighting up 2-0
before Frederick
followed with two tallies of her own to increase the lead to 4-0. Johnson then
scored the first of her two goals at 17:58 to put the Lightning up 5-0 and the
game out of reach for Columbia.
Rhonda
Watson made 14 saves for Columbia Union, which was outshot, 42-0.
The
Lightning return to action on Friday when they take on Geneva College
in the first game of the Geneva College Tournament. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
