WILMINGTON, DE (March 31, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College Softball
Team swept a non-conference doubleheader from West Chester University on
Thursday afternoon, winning game one 6-5 in nine innings before capturing a
shortened game two by a score of 2-0 at the GBC Softball Complex.
In the
opener, freshman Megan Harper (Atco, NJ)
knocked in the game-winning RBI in the bottom of ninth inning for the
second-straight afternoon to give the Lightning (7-9) their fourth win in their
last five games. Senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE),
junior Lori Knabb (Paulsboro,
NJ) and freshman Jillian Murphy (Wilmington,
DE) each had an RBI for the
Lightning in the win.
Stacy
Krupiewski and Bridget Law each had two RBI in game one for West
Chester (10-11).
Goldey-Beacom
scored the only runs they would need in game two in the bottom of the first. Murphy
plated freshman Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA)
on an RBI groundout to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead before Kimble singled in
senior Devon O’Brien (Wilmington, DE)
to cap the scoring.
Freshman Kendra Russell (New
Castle, DE) picked up her
fifth win of the season in game one, allowing one run on four hits while
striking out two in relief of senior starter Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken,
NJ). Adina DeHainaut suffered
the loss, allowing the winning run (unearned) despite not giving up any hits in
2.2 IP.
Frick
returned to pitch the nightcap and notched her third win of the season,
scattering four hits while fanning six Rams. DeHainaut remained on the hill for
West Chester and took the loss, allowing five
hits and two earned runs in five innings of work.
