WILMINGTON, DE (April 17, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College softball
team extended its winning streak to eight games with a Sunday afternoon sweep
of a non-conference doubleheader with Molloy College, winning game won 4-1 and
game two 4-0 at the GBC Softball Complex in Wilmington.
The
Lightning climbed to four games over .500 at 15-11 with the wins while the Lady
Lions dropped to 9-21 on the season.
Goldey-Beacom
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game one in the bottom of the fifth inning when
senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE)
scored on a throwing error by Denise DeSantis. They extended the lead to 4-0 in
the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of two errors by Molloy to push
across three runs. Sophomore Sarah
Gehman (King of Prussia, PA) led off the tinning with a single and scored
on a throwing error by Molloy Catcher Melissa Skupp before junior pinch hitter Andrea Connor (Blandon, PA) singled
home junior Brandi Ash (Dagsboro, DE).
Connor scored the third run later in the inning on an RBI single by senior and
winning pitcher Tiffany Frick (Wilmington, DE).
Frick
allowed one run (unearned) on four hits in seven innings of work, striking out
one to even her record at 6-6. Katie Scotko suffered the loss for the Lady
Lions, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings of work
with one strikeout.
In game
two, freshman Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE)
fanned 11 Lady Lions en route to earning her ninth victory of the season. The
Lightning took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and tacked on two
more insurance runs in the bottom of the third. Frick went 3-for-3 on the
afternoon and drove in three runs while Russell also drove in a run.
