CALDWELL, NJ (May 6, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College softball
team continued its run through the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
playoffs Friday afternoon, defeating Wilmington College 8-1 and Felician College
3-0 to move one game away from the CACC Championship game.
The
Lightning are 3-1 in the double-elimination tournament and look to advance to
the championship game against Georgian
Court College
with a win against Caldwell
College on Saturday.
Trailing the
Wildcats 1-0 going into the bottom of the third, the Lightning exploded for
four runs to take a 4-1 lead they would never relinquish. Senior Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken,
NJ) and classmate Holly Kimble (Millsboro,
DE) each drove in two runs in
the inning.
In the
bottom of the sixth, Goldey-Beacom (26-17) pushed across four more runs to
extend the lead to 8-1 behind an RBI singles by juniors Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE) and Andrea
Connor (Blandon, PA) and a two-run single by freshman Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE).
Russell
notched her 17th win of the season for the Lightning, allowing just
three hits and one run in seven innings of work. Nicole Shallcross suffered the
loss for the Wildcats (22-23), allowing 10 hits and seven runs while striking
out four in five innings of work.
Against
Felician, freshman Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) drove in
two runs and classmate Jillian Murphy (Wilmington, DE)
also had an RBI while Russell scattered five hits as she improved to 18-7 on
the season.
