WILMINGTON, DE (March 19,2005) – Bloomsburg College swept a matinee
softball doubleheader from Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon, winning
game one 3-1 and game two 4-1 in non-conference action at the GBC softball
complex.
Game one
remained scoreless until the top of the fourth when Tara Emery singled home
Alyson Taylor to give Bloomfield
(13-1) a 1-0 lead. Bloomfield
stretched the lead to 3-0 the following inning on an RBI triple by Kelly Zarski
and an RBI single from Sara Roba. The Lightning struck back for a run in the
bottom of the seventh when senior Holly
Kimble (Millsboro, DE) led off the inning with a triple and
scored on a wild pitch but could get no closer.
Amanda
Smith picked up the win, allowing three hits and one run while striking out 10.
Senior Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken, NJ)
suffered the loss for the Lightning, allowing nine hits and three runs (two
earned).
In game
two, Bloomfield picked the only runs it would need in the top of the fourth
when Emery drove in Wolfe and Tiff Corliss doubled home Emery to build a 2-0
lead. The lone Lightning run came in the bottom of the sixth when Frick singled
home freshman Jillian Murphy (Wilmington, DE).
Jamie
Wilson earned the win for Bloomsburg, allowing eight hits and one run while
striking out 10. Freshman Kendra Russell
(New Castle, DE) took the loss, allowing nine hits
and four earned runs while striking out seven.
