BLOOMFIELD, NJ (April 21, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College Lightning swept an afternoon doubleheader from Bloomfield College Thursday afternoon, winning game one 6-3 and game two 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Pulaski Field in New Jersey.

The Lightning took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener when sophomore Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA) scored following two Bloomfield errors. Bloomfield struck back for two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 behind an RBI double by Amanda Byrnes and an RBI single by Mallorie Mathews. They pushed the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Byrnes belted a solo home run.

Goldey-Beacom rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at three on freshman Megan Harper’s (Atco, NJ) first home run of the season and an RBI single by junior Brandi Ash (Dagsboro, DE). The Lightning completed their comeback one inning later when freshman Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) belted a three-run home run – the first of her career – to give the Lightning the win.

Senior Tiffany Frick (Wilmington, DE) picked up her seventh win of the season in the opener, allowing 11 hits and three runs while striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work. Claudette Martone suffered the loss for Bloomfield, allowing eight hits and six runs (four earned) with two strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Russell came on with one out in the ninth for Lightning to earn her second save of the season.

Goldey-Beacom fell behind 1-0 in game two when Diana White scored on a throwing error by Frick in the bottom of the fourth. As in the previous game, the Lightning rallied late to capture the win, using an RBI single by Gehman to tie the game in the fifth to tie the game before Frick scored on an error by Amanda Byrnes in the sixth to give GBC its 10^th win in its last 12 games.

Russell went the distance in game two to earn her 10^th win, allowing just five hits and an unearned run while striking out three. Kristin Wilhelm took the loss for Bloomfield (9-22, 2-10 CACC), allowing two unearned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven IP.
