Dr. Michael Finizio, Head Coach
Dr. Michael Finizio has coached soccer at various levels for over 20 years. In 1996, Dr. Finizio joined the coaching staff of the GBC soccer team. For the previous 14 years, Dr. Finizio had coached at Archmere Academy, a private high school in Claymont, Delaware. In 1994, Dr. Finizio was voted the High-School Coach of the Year. When Milton Olazagasti retired in 1998, Dr. Finizio took over the Head Coaching position and has had tremendous success since.
In 2001, Coach Finizio led his team to a 2nd place finish in the conference. The team regrouped in 2002 to win not only the Conference Playoffs, but also the NAIA Region X Championships, thereby earning a first round berth at the NAIA National Tournament. Coach Finizio's tremendous effort in 2002 did not go unnoticed as he was named Coach of the Year in 2002 for both the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and the NAIA Region X. In 2003, The Lightning closed out its regular season tied for 2nd place, but then proceeded to claim the CACC Tournament in decided fashion, outscoring its opponents 17-5.
