WILMINGTON, DE (September 30, 2004) – William Harris scored two goals and Frank DeMas added one as West Chester University downed Goldey-Beacom College, 3-1, Thursday afternoon in non-conference men’s soccer action at Nancy Churchman Sawin Athletic Field.

Senior Matt DiGiacobbe (Newark, DE) scored the lone goal for the Lightning, who have lost nine of their last 10 games and now stand at 2-9 on the season. Goldey-Beacom played without two of its top three scorers as junior Bruno Farias (Recife, Brazil) and senior Dan DiGiacobbe (Newark, DE) were forced to the sidelines with injuries.

DeMas opened the scoring at 16:26 when he banged home a pass from Dan Cassidy to give the Rams (6-3-1) a 1-0 lead. Harris’ first tally of the afternoon off a crossing pass from Alex Inman at 18:46 increased the lead to 2-0 before DiGiacobbe scored at 32:36 to cut the deficit to 2-1 going into halftime. Junior Jason Carty (Newark, DE) was credited with an assist on DiGiacobbe’s sixth goal of the season.

The only goal of the second half came when Harris took a pass from Ricky Mucelli and broke in alone on senior goalkeeper Bryan Rudden (Landenberg, PA), beating him to his left side at 85:44 to cap the scoring.

Rudden was solid throughout and brilliant at times, recording eight saves as the Lightning were outshot 38-12. The Rams also held a 19-3 edge in corner kicks.

Goldey-Beacom returns to action this Saturday when they travel to New Jersey to take on Caldwell College at 2 p.m.
