NORTH ANDOVER, MA (September 26,
2004) – Diego
Gabadian scored two goals and dished out two assists as No. 19 Merrimack
College defeated Goldey-Beacom College, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in non-conference
men’s soccer action in Massachusetts.
Senior Matt DiGiacobbe (Newark,
DE) scored the lone goal off a pass from
junior Jason Carty (Newark, DE)
for the Lightning (2-7), who were outshot 13-5 in the loss.
Rob Maiocco
opened the scoring at 8:10 for Merrimack
(8-1) before Donnie Aylward made it 2-0 just 2:16 later. Gabadian converted a
penalty kick 1:16 after the second goal to make it 3-0 Merrimack before DiGiacobbe scored at 13:39 for
GBC to cut the deficit to 3-1. The game remained that way until Gabadian scored
his second goal at 57:38 to cap the scoring and ruin any chance of a Lightning
comeback.
Senior
goalkeeper Bryan Rudden (Landenberg, PA) made
three saves before being replaced by freshman Rob Garofalo (Lindenwold,
NJ) with until 10 minutes
remaining in the contest.
The
Lightning return to action Tuesday when they travel to Pennsylvania
to take on Shippensburg
University at 3:30 p.m.
