WILMINGTON, DE (October 23, 2004) – Junior Bruno Farias (Recife, Brazil) had two goals and an assist and
senior Matt DiGiacobbe (Newark, DE)
had a goal and an assist as Goldey-Beacom College rolled past Holy Family
University on homecoming, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference action at Nancy Churchman Sawin Athletic Field.
The
Lightning (3-13-21, 2-4-1 CACC) struck for four goals in the first 21:50 of the
game and never looked back. DiGiacobbe opened the scoring at 8:14 when he
scored unassisted to give GBC a 1-0 lead. Farias’ eighth goal of the season
just 1:17 later made it 2-0 Lightning before junior Jon Hundley (Lancaster,
PA) scored his first goal of
the season at 20:55 to make it 3-0 Lightning.
Farias
pushed the lead to 4-0 with a goal – his ninth of the season – at 21:50 before
Mike Parson scored for Holy Family at 23:54 to make cut the deficit to 4-1
going to the break. However, freshman Brett
Kirkland (Severna Park, MD) struck back for Goldey-Beacom at
46:19 to make it 5-1 before a goal by Chris Glover of Holy Family at 59:00 made
it 5-2 and closed the scoring.
The game
was extremely physical as a total of 37 fouls, eight yellow cards and two red
cards were handed out by officials.
Senior
goalkeeper Bryan Rudden (Landenberg, PA)
made 12 saves in his final game home at Goldey-Beacom. Also playing in their
last home contest was Matt DiGiacobbe, Dan
