2007-2008 Season Outlook
Coach Asbell begins his second season as
the Lightning Head Coach with the goal of building on the successes of
previous teams. The Goldey-Beacom College golf team has had a tradition
of winning that includes conference and NCAA regional championships, and
an appearance in the NCAA Div. II National Championships in 2005.
New to the 2007-08 team are freshmen Erik
Tammsalu from Ontario, Jack Alberti from Vermont, local high school
standouts Matt Loeslein (St. Elizabeth), and Travis Parker (Cape
Henlopen). From Maryland, Wesley Hood (Bohemia Manor) and John
Marsteller (Rising Sun) will round out the incoming freshmen class.
Junior College transfer Joe Landers should add collegiate experience to
this group of young players.
Returning players from last year’s team
are senior Mark Agnew and juniors Rob Hunt, Mike Williams, and Justin
Grossman. Each will be counted on to lead the team.
The 2007-08 team has tremendous depth,
and competition for the top five stops will be fierce. The team begins
the fall season with the GBC Fall Classic, to be held at Back Creek Golf
Club and Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown. Coach Asbell has high
hopes for this talented group to continue the tradition of successful
golf at Goldey-Beacom College.
