MIDDLEFIELD, CT (April 20, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College golf team captured its third-consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championship Monday afternoon at Lyman Orchard Golf Club in Middlefield, CT.

 

The Lightning finished with a combined team score of 625 (+49), 12 strokes ahead of second-place Post University (+61, 637) and 20 strokes up on third-place Dominican College (+81, 657). In doing so, the GBC golf team becomes the first athletic squad in school history to advance to the NCAA Tournament, which will kick off May 2 in Jackson, NJ.

 

Lightning junior Mike Tobiason (Wilmington, DE) finished at +3 (147) to win his third consecutive individual championship while sophomore Steve Cutler (Kennett Square, PA) finished one stroke behind at +4 (148). Junior Nick Nardo (Newark, DE) and freshman Mark Agnew (Newark, DE) finished tied for 10th place at +21 (165) and joined Tobiason and Cutler on the CACC All-Tournament Team. Senior Michael Clair (Landenberg, PA) rounded out the Lightning five, finished in a tie for 20th place at +28 (172).

 

For their efforts, the Lightning were also presented with the CACC Sportsmanship Award, becoming the second Goldey-Beacom athletic team (men’s basketball) to win the award this year.
